RSC student David Bockhaus won the $2,000 grand prize in the Back to School contest Tinker Federal Credit Union offers through the “Buck the Norm” program.
In a press release, Bockhaus, studying marriage and family therapy, said “I was speechless. All I could say was ‘Oh, my God.’ It came at the right time and is a huge blessing.”
Bockhaus learned about the contest when he visited TFCU’s booth at Raider Dayz on first day of classes this fall and he entered on the “Buck the Norm” Facebook page. He is saving most of the prize, but said he will buy a Xbox.
“Buck the Norm” started in 2008 as TFCU’s young adult initiative targeted at students 16 to 25 years old, pushing the knowledge of how to make smart financial decisions to avoid debt or, if need be, get in “smart” debt.
Lesley Clark, TFCU marketing project coordinator, encourages students to check out BucktheNorm.com. It is full of tips and advice on how to manage money. Having financial knowledge will empower and equip students for making life decisions such as buying a house, car, etc.
