The Second Annual National Bisexual Awareness Week kicked off on "International Celebrate Bisexual Day" Sept. 23.
National Bisexual Awareness Week is filled with events across the nation that celebrates bisexuals and highlight issues they face in their communities. These events also teach those who aren't bisexual how to accept them.
"There is only a third of the bisexual community who are out to their friends and family," said Heron Greenesmith, lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender movement and policy analyst at the Movement Advancement Project.
According to Bustle.com, there are various ways people can become involved. Twitter is using "#BiWeek" to raise awareness. Other ways include using social media to share personal stories and encouraging messages.
OKC has a pride group open to LGBT community members. According to the pride website, "OKC Pride is a non-profit corporation led by a board of directors who are elected by all community members of OKC Pride."
They will hold their annual general membership meeting at 7 p.m., Sept. 29 at the Expressions Community Center in OKC.
